adj. become (or go) dun, of cured codfish, turn dingy brown and soft.
- 1819  To mention one defect more, it may become dun, if left too long in the pile, which happens sometimes from want of sufficient store-room and of an opportunity to ship it off in the proper time : the weather beating into the piles softens the fish and gives it a black, snuffy, or dun colour.
- 1958  A good fish . . . can be sunburned on the flake, go slimey in the pile or dun in the store.
